For telling the difference between Linksys Max-Stream AC2200 vs Linksys AC1200 I was using both of routers with various units. So I connected Linksys AC2200 to my Windows 10 PC. Installation and setup were pretty simple for both routers and I'm not a computer tech. I estimated it took about 15 minutes for Max-Stream and 20 minutes for Ac1200 including thoroughly reading the instructions. Frankly speaking, you can do it without reading anything if you just go to the Linksys website. It will walk you through everything.
I am having tested various speeds via hardwire and wireless for AC1200. The range is excellent for this unit, too. The house is two-floor, though the range of Max-stream is further than of Ac1200. But compare, Linksys AC1200 has improved throughput X2 or even more. Really, AC1200 is a great router and price is a real bargain, as it met all your needs at a reasonable price point.
Note, that Linksys A2200 and AC1200 are solid. You do not have to restart these router since purchase and setup. The routers run both a 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz network as well as a guest network if need be. Also, I like a great feature of accessing the internet and download/upload speeds in Max-Stream AC2200.
To say a few words about security – Linksys AC1200 has nice features like providing a Guest Wifi one, where you don't have to risk your password and network security versus just usual signing in. It is nice that you can access and manage your Wi-Fi from anywhere on your mobile device. Max-Stream, unfortunately, doesn`t have such a possibility, as you should sign in before using it.
Whether you get Linksys Max-Stream AC2200 or Linksys AC1200 be sure and register the product for support from D-Link if you need it. This thing will make a HUGE difference in the reliability of Wi-Fi connections throughout your home.
RAM and Flash memory. Memory in the router is important as it is something that allows passing all the data forward in full. Here, if you often fill in different e-forms and write long emails with a lot of pictures attached, if I were you and would be choosing between ASUS RT-ACRH13 or RT-N66U, my choice was RT-N66U with 256 MB of memory rather than RT-ACRH12 that has only 128 MB.
Anyway, overall, after going through the whole process of checking of all features of the Linksys Max-Stream AC2200 vs Linksys AC1200 I can say, that I'm happy with both routers so far. The price point for the feature set seems pretty hard to beat.
I'm actually very impressed with this new router. The web admin page is clean and uncluttered, and updating the router didn't wipe the settings. My devices seem faster thanks to Linksys AC1200, especially the ones that can use the upper band. Everything else is pretty straightforward.
I can turn all its lights off. Footprint is about 8" X 8" X 6" (w-l-h). Therefore, it fits the shelf perfectly. By the way, everybody in the house used the same SSID no matter what band (1 x 2.4GHz, 2 x 5GHz) they used. This product met my expectations for its purchase. Client PLEX players never a hiccup, Netflix never shows "loading" screen on 4K content, Chromebook feels faster.
